Subdomain Question
Posted August 5th, 2009 by Quikkie
Hi, I've got a website www.virusclothing.co.uk but after running the SEO tool one of the things it suggested was that I add a blog. I've now installed a WordPress blog on the subdomain http://blog.virusclothing.co.uk but when I run the SEO Tool now it's still saying there's no blog present.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Should I move it to www.virusclothing.co.uk/blog instead? I'm not a technical wizz so please go easy!

I had the same problem

I had the same problem with a slight difference with the website grader. It recognizes the main page as blog posts. I had a code on the main page that posted the last posts from blog and this may have made the grader to consider the main page of the site as a blog. Unfortunately even after I got that code out of the page the grader sees the main page as blog. I think that the algorithm tries to locate the blog at the first use of the grader and if it finds it then stores this info and does not try to find it again when you use grader next time.
In your case I would put some links on the site pages to the blog and create some great content. I would change the URL as you suggested because the tool you are using may see blog.virusclothing.co.uk and www.virusclothing.co.uk as 2 different sites. This should make the SEO tool to see your blog.
Best regards,
Adrian
I'm not sure what SEO tool

I'm not sure what SEO tool were you using. It's possible it follows links from your homepage and somehow recognizes the wordpress instalation and if there is no link to your blog from your main site, it can't find it. It is also possible it searches Technorati for your domain, so if it's a pretty new blog it might not be included in Technorati listing. You can speed this up by claiming your blog at Technorati.
Also note that having blog by default won't help your SEO at all. It's what you do with your blog that's going to have impact on your SEO.
